Getting domain name does not means you creating a website. It should be hosted in a web server before you can visit your website. In this tutorial only I am going to show is, how to get .com.np free domain name in Nepal. To host your domain name for free from any web hosting company.
How to register free domain name
Go to register.com.np. Which is Nepal’s official .np Domain Registration site. Before starting to create a domain name you must read Term and Conditions, Required Documents and list of available and valid domain names first.
For official request
- Enter the required domain and click on "Search" button for availability.
- If the domain is available for registration. Click on "Register Now" for the further process. And if not then search again for the available domain name.
- In the login page enter the email and you desired password for registration.
- Fill up the following details and click to "Create Accounts"
- Check your email for verification
- Sign in with your new account, fill the form with the details and attach the required documents. We accept jpg, png, jpeg, gif, svg file extentions with maximum of 800 kilobytes.
- Wait for the approval
NOTE:- A company/organization can only select domain names based on the company/organization's name, product's name, service's name and brand name. Required documents for .NP registration.
- In case of local entities: certificate of registration of company/firm/partnership/organization.
- In case of foreign entities registered in Nepal: certificate of registration of branch or liaison office or certificate of affiliation with Social Welfare Council.
- In case of non-incorporated entities doing business in Nepal such as Permanent Establishments or Non-incorporated Joint Venture Entities: PAN registration certificate.
- In case of any entities (local or foreign) having business interests in Nepal: certificate of trademark registration in Nepal or official filing receipt of trademark application issued by the Department of Industry (to be supported with actual trademark registration certificate within 3 years of domain registration)
For personal request
Same as above.
NOTE:- A personal domain name should be based only on applicant’s name as mentioned in below documents:
- Nepalese citizenship or passport or driving license or voter's card or
- Non-Resident-Nepalese ID Card
- Nepalese resident visa for foreign nationals
- Click on User Login to go to login and signup page.
Click on Create user to create a new account.
Fill the form carefully and create account. Details should be same as your citizenship.
After creating account login to your account. You will find a search bar there. Search for available domain name you want to register. The domain name should be an exact match, abbreviation or acronym of the registrant’s name of trademark.
If domain name is available register that domain otherwise search for other domain name.
You again need to fill a form to give complete details about person to whom the domain name belongs to. And nameservers details of your hosting provider should be filled also. If you don’t know about your nameserver you probably don’t have web hosting account. So fill ns1.he.net and ns2.he.net in primary and secondary nameserver respectively. I will show you how to create and setup web hosting in another post. These nameservers can be changed anytime by logging in your account you created just now.

Technical contact
After filling this form you will need to provide a scanned copy of a cover letter (hand written) and citizenship (or similar document) to verify yourself. Example of a cover letter is given below. Both front and back view of citizenship must be shown in the scanned copy, and the image (scanned copy) should be less than 800 KB. You can also use your camera to get the photos. After that Photoshop the images to get both face in a single image. Also if the file gets greater than 800 KB decrease the pixel of your document. I recommend to use jpeg image format because it is compressed and is smaller in size than other image formats.
After that your domain name will be in pending list to be reviewed by staffs. Don’t forget to confirm any conformation you got in your email. It may take up to 2 working days to activate your domain name. Once activated you will receive a email from them.
