The demand for electricity in Kathmandu is high

Consumers are frustrated by the problem of lightning strikes on some days. Three weeks ago, after light rains, lightning continued to increase in many places in and outside the valley.

Nepal Electricity Authority has started studying after complaints from many places. In this connection, Executive Director of the Authority Kulman Ghising inspected the substations on Saturday. He had reached the substations including Baneshwor, Lagankhel, Suchatar, Chabahil, Singha Durbar, Bhaktapur, Mulpani, Sanothimi, Balaju, Banepa, Sanothimi with technical team.

According to the Electricity Authority, the demand for electricity in Kathmandu has also increased by 40 percent now. Electricity demand in Kathmandu has now exceeded 400 MW. Such demand was not even in the Valley of Lakshmipuja in the festival.

However, if the demand is not going to come without electricity, then the executive officer of the authority says. "This is probably the most demanded in the history of Kathmandu, but we have no electricity," Ghising says, adding that the line has crossed because the distribution infrastructure cannot handle the load. To fix this problem, we are adding and replacing the feeder and transformer. Even when doing this, the problem of cutting the line is difficult to overcome. '

According to the Electricity Authority, a transformer of 1 MVA capacity of Baneshwar was burnt on Friday and the line had to be cut for some time when the same capacity transformer was added to Suchatar. Ghising said that the road extension work had to be cut in some places as work was also underway.

Not only that, but it is not known. Feeders have also been added to all the stations of the authority. "There is a problem with the power supply from one feeder to a large capacity line, it seems to be somewhere," said Ghising, the executive director. We are also looking at what other improvements need to be done in other substations. '

According to him, the problem of distribution system in Kathmandu has also been seen in the absence of 'alignment' to construct transmission line from Mother Earth to Bhaktapur. Therefore, Ghising said that he is now proposing to build a new substation.

The Electricity Authority urges the present problem not to be considered as load-shedding, for technical reasons. Also, some customers have asked to pay attention to the line switching at home.

'Many have increased the use of electrical appliances in the home and office, but have not increased the power meter load. This has also increased the problem of falling MCB switches inside the house, 'says Ghising,' adding that the capacity of the line should be increased after using a lot of power consuming equipment. The meter and the MCB should be kept accordingly. '
