The tourism board is without leadership

With only one week left before the start of the Nepal tour year, the post of Member Secretary of the original Organizing Committee has been vacated. Deepak Raj Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, has completed his four-year tenure since last Monday. It takes at least a month for the new CEO selection.

Therefore, during the inaugural and important period of the tour year, the board has become leaderless.

The government's negligence seems obvious. According to the Board's rules, a CEO does not have more than two term responsibilities. The term of the Chief Executive Officer shall be four years and he may be re-appointed for four years. The Board of Directors may form a recommendation committee to recommend suitable candidates for the appointment of Executive Chief. However, even when the visit reached the mouth of the year, the Board of Directors remained silent. The committee was formed late.

According to sources, the people represented by the government on the board want to become CEO from the former administration. The private sector representative offered to repeat Joshi for the second term.

The board had proposed to add the incumbent CEO Joshi's term for six months. But Joshi did not accept that. If accepted, that 6-month period would be counted as Joshi's second term. Joshi has applied for the second term through open competition. The CEO of the board has five applications with him.

Therefore, the lack of CEO will be avoided
Joshi was the incoming CEO of Nepal Tour Year 1. He had mentioned in his previous tenure that as CEO, the proposal was to commemorate the touring year.

Stating that preparations were not complete in 2005, the government moved the campaign to 3. Joshi was active in the preparatory phase of the tour. According to the procedure, he was also a member secretary of the original organizing committee. Therefore, his absence seems to be missing during the tour year.

If the Board of Directors wanted, the selection process for the CEO could start with Joshi's tenure remaining. The departure of the old CEO and the reception of the new CEO were likely to take place on the same day, but the Board of Directors ignored it.

Ghanshyam Upadhyay, co-ordinator of the CEO Selection Committee and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, said that the work of CEO selection will not affect the opening of the tourism year and the activities thereafter.

Despite his retirement, the then CEO of Joshi has been appointed by Minister for Tourism Yogesh Bhattarai. He has the responsibility of managing international guests. She is also active in sharing, coordinating and facilitating experiences during the preparation. He is working as a volunteer.
